ABOUT FYNBUS TOURS
OUR GUIDES
Peter is a government-licensed and registered tour guide, as well as a Game Ranger and Field Guide, qualified to Level II with the Field Guides Association of South Africa.
Peter emigrated to South Africa from the UK in 2002 to work for South African National Parks’ People & Conservation Department. Tasked with managing various infrastructure and social development projects; most notably at the Bontebok National Park. Peter was responsible for the poverty-alleviation project which redeveloped the Bontebok National Park from 2004 to 2007, building new fences, roads, an all-new restcamp and connecting mains utilities into the Park. The project employed over 200 local people and was a major contributor to the local economy and to the current success of the Park, which is now one of the most popular and highly regarded Parks in the whole of South Africa.
Having had such an influential role in the conservation and development planning of the Park over those 5 years, added to his guiding skills, there is nobody better to reveal all the cultural and natural heritage of the Park and surrounding areas, and to showcase its scenic beauty.

Peter Gratton
co-owner and managing partner of Fynbus Tours.

OUR MISSION
Fynbus Tours exists to provide safe, fun-filled and affordable day tours in the Swellendam region. Everyone who visits Swellendam for the first time regrets that they didn’t book for longer because Swellendam is such a fantastic base to use to explore the area; where else in the world can you watch whales rolling in the surf or dive with white sharks in the morning, have lunch at a boutique wine estate or enjoy fish and chips on the longest white sand beach in the southern hemisphere, then go quad-biking or horse-riding in spectacular mountains or on safari in a National Park, and still have time to enjoy a desert sunset over an ice-cold beer? Swellendam offers all that and much more, and Fynbus Tours is the best way to experience it in total safety, comfort and luxury.
The name ‘Fynbus’ is a play on the word ‘Fynbos’, which is the collective term for the unique vegetation type that occurs only in the Western Cape of South Africa. The word is derived from the old Dutch words ‘Fijn Bosch’ meaning ‘fine bush’. This vegetation type is so diverse and important from a conservation perspective that the whole region has been declared a world heritage site. It might sound incredible, but there are more naturally occurring species of flowers in this region than there are in the whole of North America or the whole of Europe. Because of this uniqueness and diversity, and its geographical and natural heritage associations, it was a perfect name for us to adopt.
