CAPE AGULHAS COASTAL TOUR
The Agulhas Coastal Tour is one of our most popular trips: it justifies a full day tour on its own, but can be combined with a Bontebok National Park or De Hoop Nature Reserve half-day tour to make a brilliant full day of nature and sightseeing.
We drive due south to Cape Agulhas, where we visit the working lighthouse. We view the exhibits describing the history of the lighthouse and others around the world, then have the option of climbing the lighthouse for a magnificent view of the sea and coastline (reasonable fitness required). We then drive to the nearby ‘Southernmost Point” where you can take souvenir photographs at the monument marking the most southerly point of the continent of Africa, where the Two Oceans really do meet. Stand with one foot in the Indian Ocean and the other in the Atlantic, and stare south, knowing there’s nothing but the terrible Southern Ocean between you and the perfect white wilderness of Antarctica 4000km away.
The above is included in combination with a half-day De Hoop or Bontebok Park tour.
The full day Agulhas Coastal tour includes all the above plus:
· A visit to Struisbaai (Huge Bay)- which has the longest white sand beach in the southern hemisphere. Highlights are the fishing boats and the views over the turquoise ocean from one of the best fish and chip restaurants in the world, located at the harbour.
· A visit to Arniston/Waenhuiskrans: Highlights are the ancient and picturesque fishing village of Kassiesbaai, the view from the terrace at the Arniston Hotel and Spa, and the famous sea caves (only accessible at low tide)
· A visit to Bredasdorp: Highlights are the candle factory, local crafts workshop & shipwreck museum
